Return of the Plankton

Who is Responsible?

John F. Williams

Director, Underwater Videographer

John produces educational videos about the underwater environment.  As founder and president of Still Hope Productions, Inc., he creates videos that portray the marine environment as a very relevant part of our regional, and global, backyard.  John's videos have won awards and been shown at film festivals around the U.S.A.  During eighteen years as a sea-going scientific technician and as many years SCUBA diving, John developed a deep concern for the way momentous decisions were being made about our marine resources.  Since the focus of media and education is overwhelmingly on terrestrial issues, the majority of people don't have the information or interest necessary to contribute significantly to ocean related decision-making.  John decided that this decision-making process could be vastly improved by promoting marine education via his underwater videos.

Bruce Claiborne

Divemaster, Science Advisor

Bruce has been a science teacher continuously since 1970 and a marine science teacher since 1973.  First under a DOE grant and then under subcontract, he worked in marine research at Battelle Marine Science Laboratory, Sequim, Washington for five summers.  A scuba diver since 1967 in the Puget Sound region, he is currently a PADI Divemaster, leading local scuba dives.   He has taken up underwater photography and videography as a means for sharing the world that he explores underwater.

Cameron Snow

Producer

Cameron was inspired to be come a video producer by the possibilities offered in Community Access Television. Under the tutelage of Kit Spier, she produced a number of short pieces for Bainbridge Island Television then, in 2001 launched Return of the Plankton with John F. Williams and Bruce Claiborne.

The encouraging success of Return of the Plankton has prompted a plan to create a series describing the natural history of Puget Sound with Bainbridge Island as a focus. Shoreline Habitat, Watershed and Forest Ecology are future subjects.

Also active as a landscape painter and botanical illustrator, Cameron is represented by Gallery Fraga in Winslow, Bainbridge Island. She holds a Master of Fine Art degree from the Royal College of Art, London and a Batchelor of Arts Degree in biological science from Mills College, California.

She served on the Board of Trustees of Bainbridge Arts and Crafts for three years, managing the portfolio for Art Education. The committee she chaired created an early dismissal day workshop program at Ordway and Wilkes Elementary Schools, employing local artists to bring enrichment programs to the schools.
